🍽️ Gastronomy

Ubud

Spiritual · Artistic · Jungle

The cultural heart of Bali. Ubud is where the real magic sits — not the cliffs of the south, but the rice fields, the temple dances, and the art villages that grew up around them. Give it three nights minimum.

Must-see & do

01

Tegalalang rice fields

At sunrise, before 7am — then you have it to yourself.

02

Campuhan Ridge Walk

The most beautiful walk in Bali. Leave early, bring water.

03

Pura Tirta Empul

Sacred springs — dress appropriately, observe respectfully.

04

Kecak Fire Dance

Every evening at Pura Uluwatu. Book the day before.

The temple on the sea. At low tide you can walk to it. At high tide it

Surfing in Uluwatu

Padang Padang or Bingin for intermediates. Kuta for beginners. The

Religion as a

daily rhythem

Every morning in Bali, more than a million small offerings are placed on doorsteps, in front of cars, at shops. Not for the tourist. For the gods. After four visits I understand now that this is not something you consume — only something you witness.

Food & drink

The best meal cost

 €2.20

Balinese food is different from Indonesian food — more coconut, more spice, more ceremonial weight. The best meals are not in restaurants but in warungs: small family stalls along the road. I have a list of eleven that I return to every visit.
